I have a good friend called Huimin...she's quirky, nice, helpful, generous, selfish, cynical, critical all at the same time. And that's what makes her such a real friend to me... and i love reading her blog, beacuse she always looks at things from a different viewpoint and never fails to amaze me with the amount of thought that gets processed in her head every minute.
She watched "I'm a cyborg, but its ok" and i think her movie review rocks. So huimin... if i may.. plagarise your blog. =)
"If there's one film you should watch this year... it will be I'm a cyborg but that's ok Kinda like a romanctic comedy but without all the mushy cliches, the buckets of tears and the third parties etc... this film moved me and touched a chord in me which all previous three films I watched failed to do so ( hugely overly hyped Tea Dance, arty film Big Bang Junvenile Love and famous award winning filmmaker Almodovar's Volver) Deeply philosophic, filmmaker Park Chan-Wook cleverly struck a beautiful balance as he brought across his meaningful, profound messages about serious and solemn issues such as death and one's purpose in life in a delightfully light hearted manner. It does not preach but invoke thinking. It is complex yet simple. It is cynical and yet hopeful. the shots are also quite cute with great detail put in the set up and props. I particularly love the part when the female lead went around killing the medical people in a rather pac man style shot. though it did seem to have tried too hard to draw laughter with the mentally-illed characters doing absolutely crazy stuff, I must admit that some of his ideas are really cute and creative... what with the man who is so polite and humble, he walks backwards, the flying socks, the elastic band around the waist... all the psychosis up for interpretation... Relatively, a little too much about the crazy antics of the people in the mental hospital and the cyborg girl as compared to the more interesting developments betweent the two leads later on in the show... I find myself hoping that the movie is longer with the interesting bits more elaborated, but I guess this means the film is more of a success as you want to watch more of it."
I watched the same movie... possibly enjoyed it as much as she did, but never spent anytime thinking about why i loved the show or what i took home from the cinema that day other than the random pop corn stuck to my clothes from my usual messy style of eating(oh wait. i didn't buy popcorn that day....)
She's amazing i tell you. I never want to lose such a loyal AND interesting friend like her. Never. SO... I am so going to need to pay you back the money soon! Ahhh just give me a rough figure and your account number huimin!!!!
