Its one more day till national day!!!
(national day post shall be presented in the national colours. try not to go blind.)

Was chatting online with a friend who is overseas and he asked me "what should i do on national day?" and just lamented the lack of enthusiasm in the Singapore community over at where he is.

And then i wondered about my own lack of enthusiasm. As a student, I think i was more thrilled by the extra day off from school due to the nation's birthday and as a younger kid, I loved the performances that went on in school and the sing-along sessions we had where i would sing out loud and with Gusto... but that was as far as my enthusiasm brought me.

But then, watching Singapore grow in different areas like the film industry and even its blooming economy, I think we've really come a long way.

So orbid to be talking about this and raving about my country but I think we've all done really well haven't we? Sure, there are lots that needs to be changed, for example, the lousy service that Singaporeans get from fellow Singaporeans or even foreign workers. The terrible driving skills some taxi drivers have that make you wanna puke, the increase in road taxes and what nots...So many things to complain about. I could go on forever.

OK let me go on for a while more lar. Lack of freedom of Speech(Speaker's corner where you have to register, write a script and send it in for vetting before being allowed to speak.), ermm... high COE prices... high standard of living... OK i stop.

But what about the good things?

Our top-notch health care system that is far from being commercialised as much as we believe it to be. In comparison with other countries, Singapore is doing a great job at making sure all their citizens get the health care benefits they need without first sending them into depression with mountains of bills.

Mono, who is in Virginia doing her work and travel had an inflammed appendic over there and had to be operated on. Her bills amounted to 15k... that's 15 thousand USD. Which adds up to about 28 thousand singapore dollars.

For the removal of one appendic mind you.

What about our clean air?

What about our transport system ? Our Buses, our LRTs, our MRTs.
Wa seh. Really spoilt for choice.

What about our education system which yes, sometimes puts us all in the same square boxes but whether you want to think out of the box is really up to you.

I honestly cannot say I am a patriotic individual of this country, but i can say that I love my country for the place it has become, for the people that it nurtured, for the multi-lingual multi-cultural society that birthed out of its nesting... for playing a part in making me the person I am today.

Happy Birthday Singapore!

May you prosper and grow both in stature and size.(constant land-reclamation?) hahaha...

"Singapore our homeland, its where we belong.
We've come so far together, one people marching On!!!!!"
